Tate raider ready to confirm his promise

PARC de Launay has always been held in high regard by Tom Tate and he is of definite interest on his seasonal debut in the Dalby Stand Handicap at Pontefract.

The son of Monsieur Bond must have been showing Tate plenty prior to his introduction at Ripon last May, as he was sent off a strongly backed favourite.

That confidence was justified as Parc de Launay turned in an impressive performance – and he managed to follow up in a novice event at Newcastle.

He stepped up to Pattern company for the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood next time and trailed home last of 10 runners. While that task may have been beyond him anyway, the fast ground was almost certainly against him and he is certainly better than the bare result.

He could be counted very unlucky when fifth in a York handicap in October, as he did not get the gaps when they were required inside the final furlong, and he was not disgraced when third at Newmarket on his final juvenile start. All in all he remains a gelding of decent promise and it would be no surprise to see him take his game to a new level this season.

David O'Meara's Descaro has an obvious chance of securing back-to-back victories in the two-and-a-quarter-mile Jamaican Flight Handicap.

The six-year-old saw out the marathon trip well to wrest the spoils 12 months ago and, following some creditable efforts in defeat during the summer, he returned to winning ways over this course and distance in October.
